Obituary

William Kemp was born in Anderson County, South Carolina on July 14, 1941, son of the late Gus and Henrietta Perry Kemp. He attended Davie County Training School, and graduated in the class of 1960. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1967. On July 16, 1988, he was united in marriage to Mildred Hall. He was employed by Reynolds Aluminum in Salisbury from which he retired in July 2000. He loved sports and attended most of the games at Davie High School. William was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, UNC Tarheels, and LA Dodgers. He loved to watch the Williams sisters play tennis. He was an avid reader and loved the Lord. At Fairfield Baptist Church he was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Men's Choir (President). He served as a deacon (past) and advisor of the Nurses Board (past). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Garfield, and Gus, Jr.; one sister, Louise Cleveland. On December 23, 2014, he died in Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Mildred H. Kemp of the home; two sons, James Foster of Charlotte, NC and Jerome Williams of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Paula (Ken) Bradshaw of Orlando, FL and Francine Williams of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Betty (Willie) Clement of Mocksville, NC; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
