Violet Mae Harmon Looney Coursey, 95, of Mocksville, died Monday, November 24, 2025, at SECU Hospice Care Center in Yadkinville.
She was born January 13, 1930, in Monroe County, WV, to the late Everette Thurman and Mary Ellen Howard Harmon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Robert Looney; her second husband, Leland Coursey, Jr.; and her six siblings, James Everette Harmon, Shirley Etta Harmon Fury, Sally Marie Harmon Pyne, Thurmond Lewis Alexander Harmon, Marjorie Ann Harmon Fury, and Genevieve Lee Harmon Howard.
Survivors include her children, Judy Looney Wilson (Rick) of Mocksville, and John Robert Looney, Jr. (Dreama) of Mineral, VA; two grandsons, John Looney, III and Paul Looney, both of Mineral, VA; three stepgrandchildren, Jody Howell (Ronald) of Mocksville, Shelia Lambert (Bryan) of Pensacola, FL, and Ricky Wilson (Jody) of Independence, VA; one sister, Frances Dotson Boggs of Lewisburg, WV; numerous great-grandchildren; and several other children who call her Mom.
She was loved by all who met her. Mrs. Coursey always looked like a movie star and never went out her door without her lipstick on! She loved music and dancing and traveled to 48 of our 50 states with her 2nd husband, Bud. Mrs. Coursey never passed up an opportunity to listen to music or to dance. She danced until a year-ago and had the privilege to dance with George Strait.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 6, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Pino Road, Mocksville. The family invites friends to visit with them at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
A celebration of her life will be held at Sweet Springs, WV at a date to be determined
