Vieva May Scott
Harlow
Nov 26, 1933 — Dec 17, 2024
Vieva May Scott Harlow, of Mocksville, passed away peacefully December 17, 2024, at the age of 91.
Vieva was born in Ritchie County, WV, to Edwin and Pauline Scott. She was the youngest of four children. Vieva was married to Robert "Bob" Harlow for 61 years. Together they raised their four daughters in Pocatalico, WV. She spent her last several years in Winston-Salem.
Vieva's first love and priority was her faith and family. Starting with her husband, sisters, and daughters, Vieva was the rock her family could rely on. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren quickly came to know Granny as the most welcoming, kind, and caring woman. Granny created a house that was a place of peace, love, and joy that the entire family would look forward to. Much like her sisters, she was an amazing hostess. When you were at Vieva's house, you were family and she made sure you knew it. She loved everyone the same, whether you were a direct descendant or married in. Even her grandchildren's friends called her Granny because she treated them as her own. Her kind, strong, welcoming demeanor was passed down through the generations and will keep her family together forever.
Vieva was a founding member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was an organist for over 30 years. She was also a lifelong member of the United Methodist Women's Club, serving in many different capacities over the years.
Vieva also loved to travel and visited many places all over the world. She made sure to include her grandchildren on some of these trips.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Bob; her brother, Edwin Scott Jr.; sisters, Helen Scott Marsh and Virginia Scott Vance; her grandson, Anthony Basilo; and her son-in-law, Ronnie Bridgette.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca "Becky" Bridgette; Janice and Art Standish; Linda and Gary Basilo; Julie and Tim McQuain; grandchildren, Candi and Steve Duran, Travis and Marsha Bridgette, Tara and Luke Phillips, Bryan and Amanda Walker, Matt and Taylor Walker, Jeff Monroe, Scott Standish, Claire Standish, Rachel Basilo Martin, Jason McQuain, David & Alex McQuain, and Liz McQuain; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Corey Yesavage, Ryan and Danielle Duran, Kailey, Kade, and Kenzie Bridgette, Anna and Jackson Smith, Grace Phillips, Ben and Cate Walker, Owen and Ava Monroe, and Harlow Martin; and great-great-grandchildren, Colton and Cannon Yesavage, and Jack Duran.
Our family finds peace knowing it is well with Granny and she is celebrating in Heaven. We imagine her husband, our Bobpa, welcoming her at the gates saying "very good, very good."
A private service will be held for the family at a later date.
