Obituary

Major Thomas Dillard "T.D" Shermer, US Army, Retired, 86, of Mocksville, passed away peacefully at Davie County Nursing and Rehab facility on June 15, 2024.

He was born on April 14, 1938, to T. Albert Shermer and Iris C. Shermer of Winston-Salem.

Mr. Shermer was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

He is survived by his three children, Cameron Bell and husband Ray, Casendra Woodward and husband Shane, David Shermer and wife Amanda; and six grandchildren, Amanda Bell, Raymond Bell, Megan Shermer, Colin Shermer, Ben Shermer, and Mary Erin Woodward.

Mr. Shermer graduated from Hanes High School in 1946. He joined the US Army, serving with the Corps of Engineers, earning 2 bronze stars, while graduating from Campbell College, with a B.S. in Geology. Mr. Shermer also retired from CraMac Cable company in 2003. He loved fishing, running rabbit dogs, birdwatching, building model airplanes and painting.

Mr. Shermer lived a quiet life and per his wishes, there will be no services. He desired to spend eternity in the mountains, so he and his wife's ashes will be spread in the NC foothills together.

In lieu of flowers, say a prayer and enjoy a beer in his memory. His favorite was Budweiser.
