Thomas Richard 'Butch' Hunter Sr. departed this life on July 5, 2013, after a recent decline in health. Butch was born November 19, 1947, oldest son of W.R. and Hester Scott Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from Central Davie High School, and retired from the workforce in 1997, following a stroke that confined him to a wheelchair. Butch was a hardworking, fun loving, talkative person who enjoyed life, and never met a stranger. He taught Darran and Thomas how to fish, play football, and provide lawn care to make their own 'pocket money.' He was well loved by his caring and devoted children. In the recent years, sitting outside under the shade trees reminiscing, watching television, and taking country side rides were his favorite past times. WXII Channel 12 sent him a thank you letter and hat in recognition of the amount of television he watched. Butch's children and grandchildren were the highlight of his life. He will truly be missed. Butch is survived by his daughter Melissa Lyons; two step daughters LaKeshia (Paul) Lyons Jeter of Winston Salem, NC and Taylor Hunter of Atlanta, GA; one son Thomas(Kalah) Hunter Jr.; and stepson Darran (Kara) Lyons of Advance, NC; four grandchildren, Kaimen and MaKiah Hunter, Shiyah Lyons, and DayShaun Jeter; four brothers, Ben Parker, James (Janet) Hunter, Ken Hunter,and Keith (Cathy) Hunter; five sisters, Annie (Leroy) Benson, Hazel Dillard,Linda Riggs, Janice Summers; and Phyllis Hunter; one uncle, Willie (Shirley) Scott; one aunt, Margaret Lyons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
