Thelma Viola Davidson, was born in Rowan County on September 20, 1933, daughter of the late William J. 'Dock' Rousseau and Nora Gray Rousseau Smyre. She attended Rowan County Public Schools, and received a GED. She was married to William Shanks, Jr. To this union, six children were born. Mr. Shanks preceded her in death in 1984. Later she married Frank Davidson on September 1, 1984, who preceded her in death in 1995. Viola had worked at Davie County Home Extension, and retired from Milling Manor Group Home as manager. She was a former member of Omega Chapter 242 Order of the Eastern Star. She loved gardening and traveling. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Wayne, Gary, and William Shanks; one daughter, JoAnn Jones; one grandson, Robert Jones. On April 6, 2017, she died at Davie Residential Care in Mocksville. She is survived by one son, Kenneth Shanks of Cooleemee; one step-son, Charles (Dianne) Neely of Cleveland; two daughters, Rochella Shanks of Cooleemee, and Alice Marie Davidson of Mocksville; three brothers, James Rousseau of Plainsville, NJ, William Rousseau of Mocksville, and Bobby Rousseau of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Shirley Rousseau of New Brunswick, NJ, Julia Kendall of Greensboro, and Georgia Ann Rousseau; one aunt, Eddie B. Rucker; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
