Tabatha LaShanda Smith was born in Davidson County on July 18, 1976, daughter of Joe Paul Smith and the late Mae Deen Hairston Smith. She graduated from West Davidson High School, where she received several awards in basketball and track. She entered the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge after four years of service. She was employed by Dixie Furniture Company for seven years. Shanda had been in declining health for the past ten years. On Wednesday, September 23, 2015, she died in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She is survived by her father Joe Paul Smith (special friend, Rhonda Manns); one brother, Terry Smith of Lexington (fiance Ronda Spicer); one sister, Paula Smith of Lexington; one niece, Keith Felicia Wilkie; one nephew, Kendall Jamaal Johnson; one great-niece, Natalie Paige Johnson; many other relatives and friends.
