Obituary

Steve Dallas Jones, 84, of Advance, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, March 10, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey and Wilma Tolbert Jones of Mt. Airy.

He is survived by his wife and life partner, Mary Frances Simpson "Frankie" Jones; children, Laura Bargaehr Van Dyk (Paul) of Boerne, TX, Alicia Peters (Steve Jacobs) of Advance, and Bradley Jones (Susan) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Eric Bargaehr (Shelby), Austin Peters, Franklin Peters, Bennett Jones, Evelyn Peters, and Reid Jones; great-grandchildren, Riley Bargaehr and Micah Bargaehr; and a son-in-law who was more like a son, Chris Peters.

Steve's oldest grandson, Eric, once wrote about his childhood for a 2nd grade school project. He learned that Steve played football and baseball at Mt. Airy High School. He walked to school and liked to go swimming in the river. His favorite subjects were history and math, which came in handy when he later helped his kids and grandkids with homework. Most notably, Eric wrote "my grandpa's favorite moment was seeing his girlfriend, who is my grandmother."

Steve was a graduate of Okaloosa-Walton Junior College in Valparaiso, Florida and earned a bachelor's degree in business from East Tennessee State University. He served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.

Steve loved to take road trips and lived all over the country from Florida to Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. He enjoyed the mountains and coast of North Carolina - especially Kure Beach and Oak Island.

He mostly enjoyed spending time with family, including fishing with his son and later his grandchildren. Steve was committed to helping his daughters with raising their children. He was always available to take them for walks in the stroller. The boys have fond memories of sitting under a tree across the street from a construction site and watching all the heavy equipment in action.

Steve was known as being very patient, thoughtful, and friendly. He leaves behind the lessons of always being kind and serving others. He loved the Lord.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
