Advance, NC Ruby Faye Johnson Leach was born March 29, 1924 in Davie County, daughter of the late Rev. Franklin Garfield and Bertha Allen Johnson. She attended Davie and Forsyth County Schools, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Winston-Salem State University. She also received a master's degree from A State University. Ruby loved children and spent her entire career working in education. She retired from Rockingham County Public School System. She was a lifelong member of Smith Grove AME Zion Church in Mocksville, where she had served as the church secretary. She was also a member of Rose De Moll Chapter #531 Order of Eastern Star. She was married to Ernest Leach, who preceded her in death. Ruby loved scrapbooking and cooking. Her specialty was baking delicious cakes. On Friday, April 21, 2017, she died at her residence in Advance, NC, following an extended illness. She is survived by three nephews, Joseph (Johnnie) Johnson, Jessie (Louretta) Hampton, and Donald (Sarah) Johnson; five nieces, Lucille (Lonnie) Cockerham, Inez (Sam) Gray, Mozelle (James) Ceasar, Johnnie Mae (James) Durant, Barbara Jean (Roland) Thomas; other relatives and friends.
