Mr. Richard Alton 'Lucky' Carson, age 76, was born in Mocksville, NC on June 25, 1940 to the late Adam C. and Mary B. Chunn Carson. He attended Davie County Training School, and Kaynor Technical School in Waterbury, CT. Lucky was self-employed as an auto mechanic, owner of Lucky's Speed Shop, and various rental properties. Richard was an active member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Mocksville, NC where he joined at a young age and was baptized into the Baptist faith at a pond on the Boxwood Estates, along with his cousins. At that time New Bethel was known as Crossroads Baptist Church. He and his late brother, Johnnie A. Carson, helped their father (Adam) build the new church, presently known as the New Bethel Baptist Church. His father was the contractor and the new church was named by his mother's father, John Cicero Chunn. Richard was a past trustee, past church treasurer, past Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of the adult class, and a church Deacon. Deacon Carson was a strong advocate for the church members and never failed to say, 'Everything is going to be alright.' He was blessed to possess an occupation that he loved, building engines for speed and would work long hours to accomplish his goal. He was known in the drag racing world for creating drag racing engines. In 2002 he received from AMIM a Trailblazer award for 'blazing the way for minorities in motor sports.' In 2012 Richard was inducted into Legends of The Farm Wall of Fame at Farmington Dragway. He loved Farmington Dragway, but also could be seen at major drag racing events talking to Roy Hill, the owner of Roy Hills' Drag Racing School, or at the Atlanta Speedway talking to World Championship Driver, Warren Johnson. Very few in the southeast did not know Lucky Carson. He was a member of the local Gideons, a Christian businessmen's organization, Christian Drag Racers Association, and also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rites Mason. As stated by one of his friends on Thursday October 27, 2016 at 10:10 AM he got the Win Light. 'LUCKY' your win light came on when you entered into Heaven. And God loves winners.' In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Adam Lincoln Carson, Johnnie A. Carson and James Henry Cowan, and one sister, Elizabeth Chunn Feamster. His legacy and life shall forever be remembered by his devoted wife, Patricia ('Pat') Peebles Carson of the home: three daughters, Almeader (Lee) Howard, Charlotte, NC, Cynthia Laverne Hosch, Cooleemee, NC and Regina Carson, Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Jarret Howard, Morgan and Tyler Carson all of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Audrey Carson Petteway, Lexington, NC; one uncle, Ervin Chunn, Salisbury, NC; Ricky & Louise Hudson, Steve & Valerie Patterson, Angelia Feaster; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
