Ramona
Hodnett
Aug 3, 1929 — Jun 11, 2025
Ramona Hodnett of Bermuda Run passed into the more immediate presence of her Savior on June 11, 2025, at the age of 95. She was the oldest of three children born to the late Edgar Newton Cooter and Claudia Ricker Cooter born on August 3, 1929 in Baileyton, TN. The family moved frequently during the depression years, eventually settling in Danville, VA. At age ten she befriended Graham Hodnett when he came into town with his mother to sell farm goods. The families became friends and spent time together on the Hodnett farm. She married Graham in 1951, and they enjoyed a wonderful 67-year marriage.
She graduated from Madison College with a BS in Education with an emphasis on math, physics and chemistry and then taught math. They moved to Winston-Salem, had three children and then moved to Clemmons in 1961. She received her master's in education from UNC Greensboro in 1970 and had a career as a school media specialist until retirement.
The family joined Clemmons Moravian Church in 1962 and became very involved in the church. She was a dedicated member and served in many capacities. She loved her church family and made many dear lifelong friends there.
She was devoted to her family and dearly loved us all. She treasured having family gatherings and many wonderful memories were made around her table eating and playing games. She also loved her many friends and her extended family.
Ramona was an avid reader and researcher with a vast knowledge of history and the natural world. She and Graham loved traveling around the world. She enjoyed gardening and became a Master Gardener volunteering at Tanglewood Arboretum. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed many crafts. In her later years, she made and designed beautiful beaded Chrismon ornaments and taught many others this art. She donated an extensive collection of Chrismons to her church for others to enjoy.
Ramona was predeceased by her husband, Graham; sister, Evelyn Foley; and brother, Guy Cooter.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Susie Hodnett (Heath Efird); son, Dan Hodnett, and his children, Delaney and Alex; daughter, Amy Young (Bob), and their children, Matt Young (Sarah) and Anna Young (Kirk Bailey); great-grandchildren, Graham and George Young and Cecilia Bailey. Also surviving are beloved sister-in-law, Leah Cooter; nephews David and Steven Carter and their families along with extended family members.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Greystone in Bermuda Village as well as Griswold Home Care and Trellis Supportive Care for the loving care they provided. Thank you also to Emma Denny, NP with Atrium Health for the love and care given over the years.
Services will be held at Clemmons Moravian Church on Saturday June 14, 2025 at 3:00 with visitation to follow. Memorials may be made to Clemmons Moravian Church PO Box 730, Clemmons NC, 27012. In memory of Ramona, be kind to others, hug your loved ones, spend time in nature and then go enjoy a good book.
