Obituary

Peggy Mae Taylor Wallace, of Mocksville, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

She was born on August 8, 1932, in Madison County, Indiana, and was a devoted wife, sister, mother, friend, and Mamaw whose legacy will live on through the countless lives she impacted.

Born to the late Kenneth and Mildred Taylor, she married Robert Lewis Wallace in 1951, and they had 57 years together with countless family memories made. Peggy worked as an office manager for Belk Department Stores and later as a lens technician for Dr. Steve Laymon, but the most important role she ever held was that of homemaker.

She lived her life as an example of selfless love, and she shared her heart with everyone she knew. Peggy was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church, and contributed her time and talents to many local organizations including the Advocacy Center and Ignite Davie.

She is survived by her sister, Rose Caudle; four loving daughters, Teresa (Donnie Lakey), Penny (the late Chuck Turner), Debbie (Carl Davidson), and Angela Lankford; 10 grandchildren, Alan Lakey (Tiffany), Bryan Lakey (Suzanne), Lisa Campbell, Nicki Collett (Brad), Michelle Dunn (Steven), Charlie Turner, Ashley Spry (Seth), Taylor Lankford, Josh Lankford (Stephanie), and Brandon Lankford; and 19 great-grandchildren, Caroline, Katherine, M.C., Annabelle, Brooklyn, Calleigh, Stella, Haven, Sullie, Rome, Cove, Ben, Lucie, Hailee, Logan, William, James, Michael, Easton, and a 20th on the way, expected in June.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maj. (Ret.) Robert Lewis Wallace; her parents; her brother, Bud; and grandson, Chip.

The family invites friends to visit with them on Friday, April 3, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Lambert Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dana Fruits officiating. Interment will follow at Farmington Community Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be considered for Davie Community Foundation, P.O. Box 546, Mocksville, NC 27028, Memo: Ignite Davie, and Farmington Community Cemetery, c/o Terry Spillman, .
