Oscar B. "Buddy"
Stinson
Oct 8, 1946 — Feb 2, 2023
Mr. Oscar B. "Buddy" Stinson, 76, of Whitsett, died Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
He was born October 8, 1946, in Guilford County. In life, Buddy enjoyed his occupation as a Machine Mover & Rigger. Whether he was moving heavy equipment or houses, no job was "too big" for him to accomplish and he took great pride in his work. In his younger years, one of his favorite hobbies was racing dirt cars. Later in life, he continued that passion by going to the dirt track with his nephew, Johnny Stovall, to watch him race and help work on his cars. Buddy also loved to travel and would often spontaneously decide he wanted to go somewhere and just up and leave without a plan. You never really knew where he was going to call you from next. He never met a stranger in his life and after just a few minutes of talking to him, he would consider you his friend and never forget your name. Buddy dearly loved the Lord, his family and friends. Every year at Christmas he transformed into Santa Claus and would make his rounds to all the kids he knew. The world is a little more dim without him and he will be greatly missed by us all.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Elsie Louise Hardin Cook; a son, Ricky Stinson; and siblings, Sue Snead, Tommy Cook, Cooter Cook, and Mary Lee Stinson Peeden.
Survivors include Mary Stinson; sons, Buddy Ray Stinson, Shawn Stinson (Molly), Scott Stinson (Terri), and Billy Martin; a sister, Betty Lou Tharrington; special friends, Pat Douglas, and Monica and Richie Swaim; grandchildren, Lindsey, Shelby, Skylr, Tylr, Brock, Ozzy, Bethany, Scarlett, Mia, Tommy, Gunnison, Sterlin, Riser, Montgomery, and Croix-Dean; several great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Lisa Williams.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Fries, VA, with Pastor Keith Ledford.
Please, no flowers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to funeral home for his funeral expenses.
