Obituary

Omega Ijames was born in Davie County, March 29, 1923, daughter of the late William Oscar Ijames and Lessie Frost Ijames. She attended Davie County Schools and as a teenager, she moved to Maryland, where she furthered her education and worked at a girls' home. She later moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she spent the majority of her life. She worked at the Veteran's Administration office, and was a clerk for the New York Department of Social Service, and retired after twenty-five years with commendation for her service. In 2004 Omega returned to Davie County and regularly attended the senior center in Mocksville. Omega loved to watch TV. She would stay up late at night watching Public National Television, because, 'Television is so educational,' she often quoted. Everything needed washing. She would wash a grocery bag and save it. Can't you just imagine what her sister Lucille and cousin Edmonia are having to sort out from her home? She also loved Fox, Mozart, Mendelson, and Yo-yo MA music. Omega was proud of her Christian principles that her parents instilled in her. She indulged strongly in conversations about history, science, nature, and evolution. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Crawford Earl, Loice, Archie and Walter Ijames, and Sadie Ijames Byers. On Friday, June 19, 2015, she died following a short illness. She is survived by one sister, Lucille Ijames of Mocksville; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a devoted cousin, Edmonia Holman Hollis.
