Obituary

Salisbury RD Pettiford, 88, died Feb. 25 in Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was born in Roxboro, NC and worked in the textile industry the majority of his life. He was married to Lola Lee Clement and this union was blessed with seven children. He and his wife lived in New York until 1984 when they returned to Mocksville. In 2012 they moved to Salisbury, NC. He was a dedicated member of New Jerusalem Apostolic Church in Mocksville. His hobbies included watching cowboy and western movies, listening to Sam Cook's music, exercising at the YMCA, and spending time with his family. Surviving to cherish his memories include his wife, Lola C. Pettiford of the home, three sons, Ricky Pettiford of California, Kevin (Phyllis) Pettiford of Salisbury, and Steven Pettiford of Bessemer City, NC; four daughters, Carolyn (Kenneth) Hallett of New York, Sylvia (James) Stewart of Greensboro, Sandra Pettiford and Patricia Pettiford both of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Jackie Biggs of Mt. Vernon, NY; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 2nd at 2:30 PM at New Jerusalem Apostolic Church in Mocksville. Bishop Willie Hayes will officiate and Pastor Nettye I. Barber will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
