Obituary

Essie Simpson Rucker age 86 of Wiley School Apartments, passed on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Genesis Healthcare Center. Born May 14, 1927 in Chester County, South Carolina, she was the oldest daughter of the late Dock and Veniast Clifton Simpson, Sr. She attended Rowan County Public Schools, and was a homemaker and nursing assistant. Essie and Robert Maceo Rucker were married in September 1949 in York South Carolina. To this union six children were born. During their marriage, they lived in Salisbury, NC and were dedicated members of Shady Grove Baptist Church in East Spencer, where the late Rev. John Gaston served as pastor. Essie and Maceo were both active at the church, serving as Deaconess and Deacon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Maceo Rucker on May 10, 1972; two sons, Raymond Rucker and Ronald Lee Rucker; two daughters, Savannah Rucker and Margaret Rucker Russell; one sister, Laurine Simpson Wells; two brothers, Dock Simpson, Jr., and Robert Simpson; two daughter-in-laws, Dianne Byrd Rucker and Lisa Rucker. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Diana (Ronald Lynn) Phifer of Salisbury, NC; one son, Donald Lee Rucker of Charlotte, NC; three granddaughters, Maria, Tiffany, and Dominique; four grandsons, Ronald Lee Jr., Charles Jr., Maceo Dontae, and Robert Lee; six great-grandchildren, Sabrina Shariece, Savanna, Riley, Nicholas and Xavier; one brother-in-law, John Robert Rucker; three sister-in-laws, Mary Young, Tina Rucker, and Margaret Rucker; a special cousin, J Van Clifton; a host of other relatives and friends.
