Obituary

Mocksville, NC Nathaniel Clement, known as 'Nate,' was born on February 19, 1942, in Davie County to the late George W. Clement, Sr., and Lula Mae Mason Clement. Nate was a 1960 graduate of Davie County Training School in Mocksville. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his service, he was deployed to Vietnam, where he stayed for almost one year. After returning from Vietnam, he joined the National Guard. He obtained employment at Ingersoll-Rand in Mocksville where he worked for thirty-one years and then retired. Nate was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in High Point, and was very instrumental in contributing and working in many ministries of the church, such as Men's Fellowship, Usher Board, Boy Scouts, Sunday School, Bible for Pews, Youth Ministries, Pastor's Aid, and Missionaries. Nate was a member of Toussaint L' Ouverture Lodge #524, Al Khattab Temple 201, and JNO.G.Lewis, Jr. Consistory #326. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Clement, Jr. On February 5, 2014, he died at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Nate leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Laquita Clement (Shawn Frost) and Nikita Clement-Nieves (Gerardo Nieves) both of Winston-Salem; one nephew who was more like a son, LaVan (Shannel) Clement of Tobaccoville; two nieces, Rotonda Faith (Kerwin) Wilson of Mocksville and Phenica Cleveland of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Isaiah and Josiah Nieves of W-S; two uncles, Rev. John (Margaret) Mason and Peter (Irma) Mason both of High Point; two brothers-in-law, Roy (Elizabeth) Crump and Theodore Crump both of Lexington; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Pharr of Cleveland, Hallie (Allen) Woodberry of Lexington, and Ruby Crump of Thomasville; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. A wake was held on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 6:00-7:30 PM at Graham Funeral Home in Mocksville. Funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 9 at 3:00 PM at New Bethel Baptist Church in High Point. Rev. Sherman Mason officiated and burial with military rites followed in Mocksville at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the church thirty minutes before the service.
