Bertha Mayrene Byers Smith, age 75, was born March 28, 1941, in Iredell County, daughter of the late Oliver Orlando Byers and Sadie Ijames Byers. She moved to Akron, OH with her family, where the majority of her life was spent. She was educated in Ohio, and worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Mayrene loved the Lord, and was a dedicated member of Spiritual Way 7th Day Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Russell; three sisters, Margie Dixon, Leona Wilson, and Verlene Gardner. On Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, she died following an extended illness. She is survived by two sons, David (Debra) Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, and Ernest (Camryn) Smith of Durham, NC; one son-in-law, Larry Russell of Mississippi; a special aunt, Lucille Ijames of Mocksville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carson Byers and Aaron Byers.
