Obituary

Mary Frances "Frankie" Simpson Jones, age 86, of Advance, NC, passed away peacefully in Winston-Salem, NC on October 13, 2025.

Frankie was beloved by friends and family. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She had a joyful spirit with a zest for life and love for the Lord that helped her overcome many health challenges over the years.

Frankie was born in Mount Airy, NC in 1939 to Laura Kirkman Simpson and Robert Franklin Simpson.

She graduated from Mt. Airy High School where she was an active and involved student, including chief cheerleader. She maintained many friends from growing up in Mt. Airy. Frankie attended Women's College of the University of North Carolina (now known as UNCG).

Frankie was the Wing Commander's Secretary at Eglin Air Force Base near Destin, Florida where she had Top Secret clearance. She was also an executive secretary and personal assistant to Roger Milliken at Deering Milliken in Spartanburg, SC. When her family moved to Davie County, she was Secretary to the Plant Manager at Crown Wood Products in Mocksville, NC. The majority of her career was as a reservationist with Piedmont Airlines and USAir in Winston-Salem where she formed many lasting friendships.

Frankie enjoyed traveling and visited nearly all major cities in the United States, several countries in Europe, and Japan. She had many memorable trips with each of her children. She also enjoyed baking, knitting, and painting.

Frankie was very active in her church, Trinity Methodist of Winston-Salem. She was a member of The Morning Glories, a singing and performance group that entertained and lifted spirits at retirement communities across the Triad.

Frankie is preceded in death by her mother, father, and ex-husband Steve Jones.

She is survived by her brother, William Robert Simpson (Rhonda) of Kennewick, WA; daughter, Laura Van Dyk (Paul) of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Alicia Peters (Steve Jacobs) of Advance, NC; son Brad Jones (Susan) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Eric Bargaehr (Shelby), Austin Peters, Franklin Peters, Evelyn Peters, Bennett Jones, and Reid Jones; and great-grandchildren, Riley Bargaehr, and Micah Bargaehr.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 4:30pm, with a reception following at Trinity Methodist Church, 3819 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
