Marjorie Mayfield Johnson was born on August 18, 1931, to the late Henry and Clara B. Mayfield, in Royston, Georgia. At a young age, she joined Royston Grove Baptist Church. She attended school in Elberton, Georgia. Marjorie moved to Mocksville, North Carolina in 1950, where she joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for over 60 years. She served the church in many capacities: Sunday school teacher, BTU teacher, the Senior Missionary Circle president of the Usher Board and a member for thirty years. In her earlier years, Marjorie was employed with American Caf and Blue Mount/Wonderknit. Later she did domestic work for several families in Mocksville. Marjorie enjoyed cooking for her family. Her greatest joy was seeing her family on Sundays. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. Marjorie enjoyed reading her Bible, doing a daily devotion and doing puzzles. Marjorie never met a stranger. Like her sister Cornelia, she had a sarcastic sense of humor. On January 21, 2020, Marjorie entered into eternal rest. We have precious memories that will live on. Preceding her in death were her eldest daughter, Gloria Marie Johnson; husband, Benjamin Johnson; and sisters, Gladys M. Teasley and Cornelia M. Maxwell. She is survived by her children, Gladys Threadgill, Bennie Johnson, Henry Johnson, Joyce Johnson, Joseph Johnson and Monica Johnson; grandchildren, Jessica Eckles, Tracy (Christa) Johnson, Philip (Heather) Johnson, Kendra Johnson, Brandon Eckles, Deshawn Eckles, Jaren Johnson, Kendall (Krista) Johnson, Amanda Johnson and Tonica (Miguel) Toppin; great-grandchildren, Mattieu, Hailey, Seth, OShay, Miles, Nicholas, Hunter, Briana, Natalie, Everley, Aiden and Chloe; a sister, Alma Jo Wingfield of Atlanta, GA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Anderson; devoted niece and nephew, Edward (Mary) Johnson; devoted cousin, Priscilla Williams; and a host of family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m., Saturday, February 1, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with Rev. Joe Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Online condolences: www.lambertgrahamfuneralhome.com
