Maria Ann Wright
Knight
Jan 17, 1957 — Jan 3, 2026
Mrs. Maria Ann Wright Knight, 68, of Mocksville, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born January 17, 1957, in Wake County, to the late Archie Wade Wright, Jr. and Annie Lee Caudle Wright of Harmony. Maria was a graduate of Davie County High School class of 1975. She was an employee of the Davie County School System for 29 years. Maria first started working at Mocksville Middle School as a Title 1 assistant and bus driver in 1981. She then went to Mocksville Elementary until 2007, at which time she went to Cornatzer Elementary School as a Teaching Assistant in a pull out reading and math program. Maria took her job seriously and loved all of her students. She was awarded Teacher Assistant of the year twice at Mocksville Elementary and once for overall winner of Davie County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 ½ years, Larry Dean Knight; a son, William Blake Peacock; brothers, Lanie Philip and Sammy Hoyle Loflin; and a nephew, Nathan York.
Survivors include daughter, Sharee Renee Knight; granddaughter, Sophia Lee Chaney, both of the home; sisters, Joan Loflin Holyfield (Jimmie) of East Bend, Connie Loflin Vestal (Dan) of Yadkinville, Malissa Wright Godbey (Ed) of Mocksville, and Malinda Wright (Sammie Mingo) of Rock Hill, SC; brother, Larry Wade Wright (Pat) of King; nephews, Frank Potts, Robert Potts and Austin York (Destiny); nieces, LeAnn Godbey Taylor (Chuck), Meghan Godbey Payne (Michael), and Ashton York Browder (Luke); many great-nephews and nieces that she loved dearly; her Angel, Caretaker and Nurse, Bridgette Cahoe and her daughter, Siara; and special lifelong friend, Lillian Ijames.
Bridgette was Maria's blessing in so many ways. Not only did she take excellent care of her, she also gave to Maria the pleasure of travel, seeing so many parts of the United States that Maria would otherwise not have been able to experience. Not only was Bridgette a part of Maria's life, she and her daughter also became a part of this family that love them both so much.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, January 9, at Jericho church of Christ, with Mr. Jack Lipsey and Mr. Tom Torpy officiating. The family invites friends to have a meal and visit with them in the fellowship hall following the service. Followed by a graveside service at 4 p.m., at Rock Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Harmony.
Because Maria loved children so much, in lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for Carolina Bible Camp, P.O. Box 1234, Mocksville.
