Lonnie William McClelland was born in Iredell County on October 19, 1934, son of the late Veann McClelland. He attended Iredell County Schools, and was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Lonnie worked at Tyson Foods for many years and then worked for Celanese Corporation in Cleveland, NC, where he retired in 2000 after twenty-three years of service. He was married to JoAnn Turner. To this union five children were born. 'Uncle Lon,' as he was affectionately called, was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and garden. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Marlon Smith and Jarvis Garner; one brother, Charles McClelland, six sisters, Ethel Bonds, Helen Houpe, Bertha Glenn, Catherine Millsap, Claudine Allison, and Elouise Dalton. On Tuesday, October 7, 2014, he died as a result of a tractor accident. Those who will cherish Lonnie's memory include his devoted wife, JoAnn McClelland of the home; three sons, William McClelland, Frederick McClelland both of Harmony and Terry (Terri) McClelland of Statesville; two daughters, Shelby (Wesley) Davis of Statesville, and Patricia McClelland of Harmony; one sister, Virginia McClelland of Statesville; eleven grandchildren, Tyrone Davis, Talya Davis, Lonika Badey, Ronnie Badey, Ricca Badey, Terry McClelland, Jr., Anthony White, Torey McClelland, Amanda McClelland, Alexis Browne, and Kayla Hall; three God-children, Nanette Campbell, Robert Campbell, and Stanley 'Butch' Campbell; five special nephews, Raymond Gentry, Danny Reid, Keith Clark, Albert McClelland, and Eddie Dalton; eighteen great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
