Kenneth Turner, 83, died Oct. 11 in Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Roanoke, VA, and grew up in Forsyth County where he attended the local schools. He received a B.S. Degree from North Carolina Central University and was a teacher in Washington, D.C. and Texas. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of a local Baptist church in Vernon, TX. He is survived by one son, Kenneth Turner, Jr. of Fort Worth, TX; one daughter, Dr. Diane (Nathaniel) Barber of Clemmons, NC; one brother, Lee Turner of Ypsilanti, MI; two grandchildren, Carmen Kilgore and Jasmine Barber; one great-grandchild, Ronald Reece Kilgore. He was preceded in death by one son, Denard Lowery; two brothers, Ray Turner and Clarence Turner; one sister, Laura Bailey. Funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 19 at 12:00 PM at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Pastor James E. Cook will officiate and burial with military rites will follow in Piney Grove AME Zion Church in Harmony, NC. The family will receive friends at the church thirty minutes before the service.
