John Harrison Whitaker, 81, of Cleveland, died Monday, September 13, 2021, at his home. He was born March 1, 1940, in Davie County, to the late John Henry and Hazel Faye Wall Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker had worked for Ploof Truck Lines out of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Williams Whitaker; and a great-granddaughter, Taiylor Barger. Survivors include children, Barbara Whitaker of Cleveland, Wayne Whitaker (Karen) of Mocksville, Tracy Jones, and Cynthia McDaniel, both of Cleveland; grandchildren, Dawn Shores, Mandy Whitaker, Stephanie Jones Barger (Charles), Paula Livengood (Allen), Blake Jones (Kimberly), Johnny Jones, Stacey McDaniel, Matthew Jones, and Jackie Greenwood; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 16, at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, with Rev. Greg McEwen officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Barger, Matthew Jones, Braxtyn Barger, Craig McBride, Jayvion Jones, Lee Vaughters, Zevion Cuthrell, and Malik Gadson.
