John Granison Pruitt departed this life on March 23, 2017 in Salisbury, NC. He was born on February 14, 1923 in Mount Airy, GA to the late John Grant and Melissa Trimiar Pruitt. He received his education at Davie Co. schools in Mocksville, NC. John became a faithful member of Erwin Temple CME Church in Woodleaf, NC where he was a member of the Male Chorus and served as a Sunday School Teacher. In 1947, John married his loving and devoted wife, Eddie Lee Jones. To this union, four children were born, John Milton, Ozella, Deborah Ann, and Richard Douglas. After working at several other locations, he retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co., Winston Salem, NC. After retirement, he spent lots of time enjoying his family and visiting relatives and friends. John enjoyed gardening and had an abundant harvest almost every year, until he became ill. He also enjoyed sharing his crop with family members and friends. The Bible was one book that he really enjoyed reading, and he was known by many as the man, 'who prayed so beautifully.' In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eddie, in 2006; six brothers, Thurland Pruitt, James Luke Pruitt, Quentin Pruitt, Baxter Pruitt, J. R. Pruitt, Levanderbilt 'Bill' Pruitt; one sister, Janie V. Haynes; one daughter-in-law, Debea Moten Pruitt. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Deborah Ann Pruitt of Mocksville, NC, and Ozella Bundy (Ernest) of Greensboro, NC; two sons, John Milton Pruitt of Mocksville, NC, and Richard Douglas Pruitt (Gloria) of Mocksville, NC; two sisters, Ollie Claudine Walls and Lizzie Teasley, both of Sacramento, CA; five grandchildren, Amanda Pruitt, Candace Heckstall (Terrick), David Pruitt, Nicolas Pruitt, Eric Moten (Nikki); seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Moten, Erica Moten, Justice Moten, Keenan Moten, Saadiah Moten, Gabriela Gonzalez, Devlin Granison Pruitt; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The family also wanted to provide the obituary of their mother, Mrs. Eddie Jones Pruitt. She was born on May 30, 1924 in Pickens County, SC, daughter of the late Eugene and Matilda Pickens Jones. She received her education in South Carolina, and at an early age she joined Abel Baptist Church. In 1942 she and her family moved to North Carolina, and Eddie joined Boxwood Baptist Church, where she remained active as long as her health permitted. She was united in marriage to John Pruitt in 1947. To this union four children were born. Eddie loved to garden and sew for her family. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ollie Mae Jones; three brothers, Harrison, Lawrence, and Ernest Jones; one daughter-in-law, Debea Moten Pruitt. On Tuesday, August 8, 2006, she died in Davie County Hospital following an extended illness. At the time of her death in 2006, she was survived by her husband, John Pruitt of the home; two sons, Richard (Gloria) Pruitt and Milton (Deb/friend) Pruitt, both of Mocksville; two daughters, Ozella (Ernest) Bundy of Greensboro and Deborah Pruitt of the home; three brothers, Melvin (Doris) Jones, Eugene (Della) Jones, and Robert (Mamie) Jones all of Mocksville; two sisters, Carrie Wilkerson of Lexington and Ozener Clark of Mocksville; four grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
