Obituary

Mr. John Henry Foster, Jr., son of the late John Henry Foster, Sr. and Jessie Wilson Foster was born September 25, 1938 in Davie County. He graduated from Davie County Training School, and attended business school in Winston-Salem. He had worked at Davie Logging and Lumber Company, and served in the United States Army January 15, 1962 to December 13, 1962. 'Johnny,' as he was affectionately called, loved to play pool and loved gardening. He was a member of Mainville AME Zion Church in Mocksville where he served on many boards and was a faithful member. On January 11, 1962 John married Nellie Thomas and they enjoyed fifty years of marriage. Together they had eight children. On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, he died of an extended illness at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. John answered the call of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and entered into eternal rest. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Thomas Foster of the home; Johnny Phillip (Cecelia) Foster of Sumter, SC, Terry Steven (Almenthia) Foster of Waynesville, MS, Lucinda Etchison and Dina Etchison both of Mocksville, Crystal Smoot Harrison of Winston-Salem, Robin F. (Shannon) Pulliam of Mocksville, Collette (Cedric) Turner of Harmony, and Lt. Col. Michael (Marion) Foster of Stafford, VA; three siblings, Charles (Blondean) Foster of Winston-Salem, NC; Gary (Teresa) Foster of Mocksville, and Beatrice F. (Rondal) Smoot of Mocksville; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one special God child, Alexus Scott; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
