Obituary

Mr. John "Johnny" Wess Davis, Jr., 84, of Mocksville, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at his home. He was born December 29, 1937, in Davie County, to the late John Wess Davis, Sr. and Annie May Potts Davis. Johnny grew up in Farmington and while at Farmington High School, he could be found working in the fields for many neighboring farmers, driving a school bus transporting the younger kids, and as a carhop at Buck's Barbeque at the (old) intersection of US 158 and Farmington Road. He was a lifelong member of Farmington Baptist Church; where in his retirement years, he and his wife, "Jody" served as Sunday church service greeters. In 1955, Johnny joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the submarine tender ship USS Orion (AS-18) stationed in Norfolk, VA. During his naval service, he married Josephine "Jody" Ruth Miller, also from Davie County. After the completion of his military service, they relocated to Atlanta, GA, where he completed his bachelor's degree at Oglethorpe University and law degree at John Marshall Law School. Johnny then went to work for Jervis B. Webb Company, the first automotive industry conveyor manufacturer. After working for a local crane and rigging company in Atlanta, in 1980, he started his own business specializing in the installation of bottling, conveying, and packaging equipment for the soft drink and beverage industries. He continued until his retirement in the 2000's, when he got to play with vintage cars. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Josephine "Jody" Ruth Miller Davis; sons, Markland W. Davis of Atlanta, GA and Randall L. Davis (Erin) of Flagler Beach, FL; grandchildren, Jackson and Lauren Davis; sisters, Peggy Baity, Elaine Smith, and Janet Spencer (Terry); nieces; nephews; and numerous cousins. Because of Covid-19, there will be no memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for charity of donor's choice. Online condolences: www.lambertfuneralhomenc.com
