Joe Jasper Peebles was born on December 13, 1926, son of the late Madison Jasper Peebles and Olar Clarborn Peebles. He was born in Davie County, where he attended Davie County Schools. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church and was a veteran of World War II. He was first married to Bernice Hosch. To this union two children were born. He later married Kathleen Hairston, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty J. Goolsby; five brothers, Duff, Edward, James, Robert, and Richard Peebles; two sisters, Edith and Isabell Peebles. On December 27, 2012, he died at his home following a lengthy illness. He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Peebles of Mocksville; one sister, Ruby P. Brown, who was also a dedicated caretaker; other relatives and friends.
