Joe Roger Childers, 87, of Mocksville, died Friday, February 21, 2025, at Davie Nursing & Rehab.

He was born December 21, 1937, in Chadborn, to the late Stanley Lewis and Mildred Ella Brewer Childers. Joe, a lifelong Tar Heel fan, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina and later received a Master's Degree in Biology, specializing in mushrooms. He was a kind and devoted caregiver, having moved back home from California to care for his parents. Joe had a deep love for plants and spent many years nurturing his greenhouse where he grew beautiful poinsettias. When he had to give up his greenhouse, he found fulfillment working in the Garden Center at Wal-Mart, staying close to his passion for plants. Joe had a talent in art, drawing, and painting, as well as his ability to tell stories that would bring joy and laughter to all who heard them. He was a past member of the North Davie Ruritan Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ben Childers; and nieces, Lisa Beane, and Mona Wallace.

Survivors include several great-nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

A private graveside service will be held.
