Obituary

Janice Loretta Allison Owings, 88, of Advance, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at Davie Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mocksville.

She was born May 18, 1938, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Bob Link and Hazel Earl Rivenbark Allison.

Janice lived a life filled with love, devotion, and dedication to her family. She was the beloved wife of James Randall Owings, with whom she shared an extraordinary 70 years of marriage. Together they built a family rooted in love, faith, and cherished traditions. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly.

Janice had a gift for making a house feel like a home. She loved to bake and was well known for making what her family considered the best spaghetti around. Janice possessed a remarkable green thumb and found great joy in gardening and caring for her plants. Whether tending flowers in the garden or preparing a meal for loved ones, Janice expressed her love through her actions and care for others. Above all, Janice cherished her family. She was a constant source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love to those who knew her. Her legacy of faith, devotion, and kindness will continue to live on through the generations she helped nurture and shape.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Watson; and siblings, Bobby Allison, Jimmy Allison, and Dolores Yates.

Survivors include her husband, James Randall Owings, Sr.; children, Alyson Needham, and James Owings, Jr.; a sister, Sandra Helton (Charlie); a proud grandmother to, Brooke Watson, and Alexandra Litten (Daniel); a loving great-grandmother to, Jack, Luke, Hunter, and Millie Litten, who were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them; along with many extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

A service will be held at a later date.

Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the lessons she taught, and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

"Those who don't go away; they walk beside us every day."

Janice's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will never be forgotten.
