Janet Elaine Christian
Beers
Apr 23, 1938 — Dec 9, 2025
Janet Elaine Christian Beers, 87, of Mocksville, died Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Davie Nursing & Rehab.
She was born April 23, 1938, in Waterville, NY, to the late Edward and Adeline Brownell Christian. Jan will be profoundly missed by her devoted family, a legacy that includes her six loving children, along with five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, all of whom she nurtured and cherished. Beyond her family, Jan dedicated her life to a deeply personal mission: sharing the gift of sobriety. Her unwavering commitment was the driving force behind an AA gift shop in Rochester, NY, where she actively supported and uplifted those in recovery. She often reflected on this calling, stating: "The shop is my opportunity to share the message of sobriety. If God were to ask me at the pearly gates what I did with my gift of sobriety, I would be able to say, I shared it."
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Beers; sisters, Evelyn Graves, Jane Shipman, and Helen Denmark; and daughters, Gail Cook and Victoria Ingham.
Survivors include her companion, Eugene Poplin; her children, Sherry Burgio (Frank) of Mocksville, Dale Cook (Pam) of Dania Beach, FL, Nancy Jarrell (Jeff) of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Richard Cook (Kristen) of Edgewater, FL; a brother, Joseph Christian (Betty); grandchildren, Jennifer Scott, Andrea Paduchowski, Zachary Jarrell, Jasmine Jarrell, and Carly Cook; great-grandchildren, Jared Burgio, Emmi Paduchowski, Taylor Paduchowski, Carter Jarrell, William Schwass, and Amelia Schwass; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 27, at 2 p.m. at Lambert Funeral Chapel. The family invites friends to visit with them at the funeral home immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Davie-Mocksville AA Group, c/o Dwayne Griggs, 386 Hartley Road, Mocksville, NC 27028; or charity of the donor's choice.
