Obituary

Mr. James Alfred Redmon, known as 'ALF', beloved son of the late Enos Redmon and Elvie Lackey Redmon, was born in Iredell County on March 11, 1941. He peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2015, following a brief illness. James was a 1959 graduate of Unity High School. After high school, he lived in New York and worked in a dry cleaners for seven years. He returned to North Carolina in 1966, and entered the United States Army. James served from October 27, 1966 until September 27, 1968. In the military James was titled as a Military Amphibian Engineer Maintenance Mechanic. He was honorably discharged as a SP4. He received an Associate Degree in Business from Catawba College while working for Fiber Industries. James retired with 30 years of service from Hoechst Celanese Corporation, at the age of 53. After retirement, he worked part-time at Manheim Auto Auction for about fifteen years. At a very early age, he joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church located in Harmony NC. His duties at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church included serving as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board Member, member of the Mighty Men Male Chorus and the Mass Choir. James was a member and Worship Master of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #824. He served the Lodge for 38 plus years; while serving as secretary, he received the 'Mason of the Year' award on October 8, 1977. He was an avid lover of automobiles, owning a 1968 Blue Chevy Truck. Alf was a very innovative individual. He loved creating things to make his life easier. Gardening, art (drawing), hunting and reciting poems/ scriptures were additional hobbies. Family members who preceded him in death include his parents; one sister, Asalee Redmon Dalton; four brothers, Oliver Eugene Redmon, John (Teresa) Redmon, Enos (Sharon) Redmon, and Bobby Redmon; and one sister-in-law, Faye Redmon. In addition to his wife, Annie B. Gaither, he leaves to cherish the memory of life, two daughters, Terri Redmon (Derrick) Cunningham of Concord, Tawania Redmon (John) Mykins of Harmony; one son, Reverend Tyrone (Tasha) Redmon of Harmony; four grandchildren, Darrian Cunningham, Tylisa Redmon (Jefferyl) Mitchell, Trista Mykins, Ailena Mykins; one great-grandson, Jace Mitchell; two brothers, Harry (Ona Lee) Redmon of Monroe NC, and Robert Gilbert (Ruthie Mae) Redmon of Statesville NC; five sisters, Cora Lauree Redmon, Dorothy (Clarence) Steele, Beatrice (James) Dalton, and Sandra Houston, all of Harmony, and Mary Lois Steele of Statesville; three additional brothers-in-law, Jack Gaither of Statesville, Grady (Dottie) Gaither of Harmony, and Ralph Dalton, Sr. of Houstonville; three sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn (Isodore) James of Olin NC, Lois Gaither of Harmony and Marie Gaither of Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
