In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Jackie Beck Burton; and brothers, Wilson Burton and Windel Burton.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Teresa Dawn Honeycutt Burton; sisters-in-law, Lil Burton of Concord NC, Sherry Burton of Murfreesboro TN, Diane Honeycutt of Shallotte NC; brother-in-law, Tommy Honeycutt of Hamlet NC; and 10 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Jean Honeycutt and father-in-law Bill Honeycutt both of Rockingham NC whom he loved as his own.
Randal grew up in Kannapolis and Albemarle NC graduating high school from Albemarle Senior High School in 1967. He attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville TN earning a BA in Bible in 1971 and later obtained a Master's degree from Southern Christian University in Montgomery AL with a degree in Counseling in 1998. Known as having the heart of a servant, he devoted many years of service as a youth minister in both White Bluff TN and West 7th church of Christ in Columbia TN. He served as a minister to the church of Christ in Rockingham NC where he met his beloved wife, Teresa. He worked as a Singles minister while pursuing his Master's Degree in Montgomery AL and he also preached at the Cherry Point church of Christ in Havelock, NC and most recently at Siler City church of Christ until his passing. He was known to fill in at other congregations as needed including congregations outside his faith in an effort to spread the word of God. Someone said he had three passions in life; God, his wife and Carolina Bible Camp. He attended Carolina Bible Camp as a camper in the 1950's and 1960's. He attended Maury Christian Camp in TN as a counselor during his years as a youth minister in TN but when he returned home to NC in the early 1980's he returned home to Carolina Bible Camp in Mocksville, NC where he has worked tirelessly since. He volunteered for over 40 years as a counselor, cook, kitchen director, week 4 director, member of the Board of Directors and, finally, Executive Director. Recently, in honor of his service, the Board of Directors honored him with inclusion in the Wall of Fame for his lifetime of service. He has devoted his life to making camp a fun, happy place for children and adults while teaching them about the bible and bringing many to Christ. He has literally touched the lives of thousands of people through his service to God. He has many talents and experiences which he has incorporated into his service to God including Boy Scout Master, funeral home assistant, floral designer and retail designer. He worked with troubled youth involved in the court system through a youth diversion program in Montgomery, AL and was known to many as Chief Randal when he worked with Eckerd Youth Alternatives Wilderness Youth camps as Social Services Coordinator. He loved gardening, cooking, canning and catering and he was devoted to his wife, Teresa and his favorite cat, Boo. He led a full life that wasn't filled with earthly riches but instead was filled with rich experiences and love for others. He will be sorely missed.
