Helen Ruth Jones Locklear Smith, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021, at home with her family.
She was born May 19, 1935, in Lumberton, to the late Beasley and Mary Ellen Jones Locklear. Mrs. Smith had operated an alterations and dry-cleaning business and later retired from Thomasville Furniture. She was a talented seamstress, loved working in her flowers and garden and sharing God's Word. Sister Smith was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Waughtown Congregation for over 50 years. As a loyal servant of our Heavenly Father, her faith and love for Jehovah God and belief in Christ's sacrifice sustained her with the promise of everlasting life in paradise and comforts her family.
Remaining to cherish her in their memory are two children, Jeffrey Smith (Robin) and Ruth Glenn (Anthony, Sr.), all of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Betty Dial, Bobbi Ann Sprinkle and Irene Ford; grandchildren, Anthony Glenn, Jr., Jason Smith and Shannon Baker; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Addison and Grace Ashby, and Montana Smith; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alford Jennings Smith; sisters, Rosie Mae Lowery and Janie Locklear Grant; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Smith Ashby.
A funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m., Monday, July 26, at Lambert Funeral Chapel, with Brother James McLemore officiating.
