Obituary

Newton, NC God in His divine wisdom called home to rest one of His good and faithful servants, Gracie Amos Rhynehardt, who transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal resting place on Friday, June, 24, 2016 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Hickory, NC. She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Rosa Bell Hairston Amos. Gracie was born March 19, 1927 in Danbury, Va. She was married to Odell Rhynehardt, Sr. for seventy years. To this union two children were born, Odell Jr., and a baby girl who died as an infant. Gracie and her husband loved to farm, raising sugar cane and all kinds of vegetables. The Rhynehardts were well known for their molasses and sold them to people in many counties. Gracie loved to cook and was employed by several school cafeterias. Gracie became a member of the Church of Christ in 1941 and served as the preachers wife at the Glendale Street Church of Christ in Newton, NC for over forty years. Working closely with her husband, she helped to convert many souls to Christ. She was a mother figure to a lot of people, always ready to give a listening ear and sound advice to anyone with serious concerns. She encouraged almost everyone she came into contact with to obey the Gospel of Christ, stressing the urgency of doing it right away. Her favorite phrase was, what are you waiting for? In addition to her parents, the family members who preceded her in death include two brothers, Joe Pete Amos and Henry Amos; three sisters, Millie Rhynehardt, Nannie Sims, and Betty Amos. Those left to cherish the memory of her life are her husband, Odell Rhynehardt, Sr. of Newton, NC; one son, Odell Rhynehardt Jr., and wife Gwen of Advance, NC; three granddaughters, Roslyn Cheatham and husband Joe of Huntersville, NC, Katina Rhynehardt of Raleigh, NC, and Tamara Acevedo and husband Angel of Huntersville, NC; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Damon of Wintson Salem, NC; two sisters-in-laws; a host of nieces and nephews, and countless other relatives and friends.
