Obituary

Garfield Henderson Cain, resident of Brooklyn, NY, was born in the Clarksville township of Davie County, NC on December 22, 1925, to the late Carl Clifton and Sarah Parthenia Howell Cain. He attended Chinquapin School of the Davie County School System, Mocksville, NC. As a youth, he joined Chinquapin Grove Missionary Baptist Church, located in Yadkin County, NC. 'Buck' worked for several farmers in the Four Corners and Cana communities of Davie County and Lone Hickory community of Yadkin County, NC before moving to Winston-Salem, NC. He married the late Edell Peoples. He was employed at the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Winston-Salem, NC prior to moving to New York in 1954 in an effort to better his living conditions. Upon settling in New York, he was employed by the Bieler Company, located in Happauge, Long Island, NY. After a management decision in 1970, the owner started the Lambro Industries, located in Amityville, NY, where in 1998, the Penna Elbow Company became a part of the industries. Penna Elbow Company is located in Queens, NY. Garfield worked at all three locations, for a total of sixty years, until his health failed in December, 2014. On Saturday, April 11, 2015, he departed this life at his home in Brooklyn, NY, at the age of 89, after a brief declining stage in his health. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death, by one brother, Clifton, Harding Cain; two sisters, Evola Ellison and Millie Ann West; one nephew, Brandon Cain, and a great-niece, Katina West; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Lemuel Scott and Francis L. Smith. 'Buck' leaves to cherish his precious memories three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Scott, Mrs. Hilda Ruth Smith, and Mrs. Faye Elizabeth (Richard) Carter all of Mocksville, NC; two brothers, Mr. Roland Pinkney Cain of Danby House, Winston-Salem, NC, and Mr. Wilbur 'June' (Amelia) Cain of Traphill, NC; one brother-in-law, Mr. Hubert Allen West, Sr. of Mocksville, NC; nine nephews, eleven nieces, several great and great-grand nephews and nieces; two uncles, Mr. Charlie Lester 'Doc' (Louise) Howell of Mocksville, and Mr. Gilbert (Mary Ruth) Howell of Boonville, NC; one aunt, Ms. Ruth Howell of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of cousins, and many New York friends.
