Frances Magdalene Rachels Stephens, 86, of Valdese and formerly of Mocksville, died Saturday, November 5, 2022, at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton.

She was born June 15, 1936, in Yadkin County to the late Carl Clayton and Lula Mae Pelle Rachels.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Linda Tomlinson, Larry Rachels, and Clayton Rachels.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Dean Stephens; sons, Joel Russell McEwen (Penny O'Neal), Gregory Scott McEwen (Stephanie), Tommy Dean McEwen (Sharon), and Marty Kim McEwen (Stephanie); stepchildren, Jerry Stephens (Lisa), Maria Turnmier, Ann Cole, and Scott Stephens; sister, Elizabeth Myers; seven grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 10, at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Greg McEwen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
