On the morning of Thursday, March 24, 2016, God came to Elvania and said, 'No more tears, no more pain, from this day you will depart from this earthly life in exchange for eternal life. Elvania Marie Wilkes Crews was born on February 15, 1948 in Rowan County, to the late Ben Wilkes and Janie Wilkes Bowman. She was a dependable, hard-working woman, whose employment included First Union Bank in Clemmons, NC, where she held the position of Teller Manager. In 1969, she married Harold E. Crews. They enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage. To this union, one child was born. She was an active member of St. John AME Zion Church, where she served as a member of the Deaconess Board and as a Communion Steward. Elvania is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Harold E. Crews of Mocksville, NC; her daughter, Carla Crews of Mocksville, NC; her 'favorite nephew/adopted son' Curtis E. Carter of Huntersville, NC; one brother, Elliot (Margaret) Wilkes of Mocksville, NC; two sisters, Shirley Morrison of Charlotte, NC, and Flora Jean (Bruce) Hancock of Statesville, NC; and a host of relatives and friends.
