Mrs. Elaine Marie Scullin Mathis, 75, of Advance, died Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Novant Health Clemmons Medical Center.

She was born October 20, 1948, in Parma, OH, to the late Lawrene John and Adelaide Johanna Schweisthal Scullin. Elaine had a love of nature, crafting, and giving back to her community. She was a very active member of Cornerstone Christian Church. To know Elaine was to be loved by her. She will greatly be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lamar Mathis, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Bob Eggler.

Survivors include children, Howard Lamar Mathis, III, (Darlene) of Duluth, GA, Jeff Mathis (Lory) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Kennedy Mathis of Advance; siblings, Larry Scullin (Karen), Dennis Scullin (Mary), Pat Eggler, Michael Scullin (Marilyn), Richard Scullin (Mary), James Scullin (Kathy), and Thomas Scullin (Vicki); and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date, at Cornerstone Christian Church with Rev. Kevin Frack officiating.
