Obituary

SFC Love C. Jones, III, age 42, died December 25, 2011 in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia. A native of Rowan County, he entered the United States Army in 1989, and proudly served for the past twenty one years. He obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class, and served multiple tours in Operation Desert Storm. He was currently assigned to the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. During his career, he obtained the following awards: Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award); Army Commendation Medal (4th award); Army Achievement Medal (7th award); Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award); National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star (2nd award); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (three); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia); Kuwait Liberation Medal (Government of Kuwait); U.S. Army Recruiter Identification Badge- Gold with Sapphire Achievement Stars (three); Combat and Special Skill Badge Basic Marksmanship Qual Badge Bar, Weapon: Rifle (Inspection: Rifle); and Drivers Badge Wheeled Vehicle. On June 11, 1993, he married Billie J. Carson of Mocksville. This union was blessed with one daughter, Loveona Jenee Jones. He was a member of Hopkino Road Church of Christ in Richmond, VA. Preceding him in death was his father, Love C. Jones, II. He is survived by his wife, Billie C. Jones and daughter Loveona Jones both of Midlothian, VA; his mother, Carolyn Louise Mitchell of East Spencer; one brother, Ronald Jones of Salisbury; three sisters, Betty (Ted) Oglesby and Denise Jones both of East Spencer, and Beatrice Jones of Salisbury; his mother and father-in-law, Billy and Barbara Carson of Mocksville. Funeral service will be held January 5 at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery.
