Dorothy Lee Dillard was born July 26, 1926 in Guilford County, daughter of the late George David Lewis and Pearl Lewis. She was educated in the Davie County Schools, and at an early age, she joined St. John AME Zion Church. She was married to William Dillard, Jr. To this union, nine children were born. Two sons, William and Dwight Dillard, died in infancy. Also preceding her in death were her husband, William Dillard, Jr., one daughter, Laverne Dillard; two sons, Larry Dillard, Sr., and Terry Dillard; two brothers, Ernest Lewis and George Lewis, Sr.; two sisters, Pearl Huntley and Rosa Lee Hines. On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, she died at the age of eighty-eight at Forsyth Medical Center following an extended illness. Left to cherish fond memories are two sons, Elton Lee Dillard and Ricky (Gina) Dillard both of Mocksville; two daughters, Geanna Dillard and Patricia Redmon both of Mocksville; one brother, Ervin Lewis of High Point, NC; one sister, Darnella D. (Eld. Wardlow) Fraizer of Rural Hall, NC; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends.
