Doris Mayfield Gray, was born in Rowan County on February 19, 1942, daughter of Lizzie M. Mayfield and the late John M. Mayfield. She graduated from West Rowan High School, and at an early age she joined Erwin Temple CME Church, where she served faithfully. She was a member of the Steward Board, the Missionary Department, and Pastor's Aide. She retired from Fiber Industries. She loved her family and was a great conversationalist. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John Ervin Gray; her father, John M. Mayfield; two brothers, Alvin and Frank Mayfield; one sister, Debra Mayfield. On May 22, 1015, she died following a brief illness. She is survived by two sons, Dennis Gray and Kenny Gray, both of Woodleaf; one daughter, Jennifer M. White of Cooleemee; her mother, Lizzie Mayfield of Cooleemee; three brothers, Wilton (Kim) Mayfield, John (Lucille) Mayfield both of Mocksville, and Felton (Judy) Mayfield of Cooleemee; three sisters, Pastor Ruby Howell and Lexeris Cline both of Cooleemee and Libby (Milton) Neely of Salisbury; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Thomas Miller of Salisbury; other relatives and friends.
