Donald William Smith, Sr., 84, of Mocksville, died Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his home.

He was born October 1, 1941, in Davie County, to the late Clarence Roosevelt and Della Frances Smith. Mr. Smith spent his career working at Baker Furniture. He loved to maintain his property and loved to fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Lou Williams Smith; five brothers, Frank Smith, Sherill Smith, Carl Smith, Richard Smith, and Grady Smith; a half-brother, Melvin Smith; a sister, Frances Bostic; a stepmother, Della Walker Smith; and a stepgranddaughter, Gwen Durham.

Survivors include his children, Donald William Smith, Jr. of Lexington, Susie Jane Smith Durham (Dennis) of Mooresville, Marie Benson (Rusty) of Mocksville, and Clarence Eugene Smith (Michelle) of Mocksville; brothers, Monroe Smith, Manard Smith (Sherry), Marvin Smith (Lauren); a sister, Iona Dorsey (Rob); grandchildren, Caleb Benson, Joshua Smith, Eric Beck, and Ashley Burnham; and an extra special friend, Hubert Lee Cascaddon

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 21, at Lambert Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Ken Norman officiating. Interment will follow in Turrentine Baptist Church Cemetery. The family invites friends to visit with them one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
