Obituary

Donald Mark Eaton, of Advance, known to family and friends as Mark, passed away peacefully Monday, January 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of family, quiet strength, and service to others.

Born on July 22, 1962, Mark was the son of Donald Taylor and Emily Mock Eaton of Advance. Raised in Advance, he developed deep roots and lasting friendships. Mark was a graduate of Davie County High School and Appalachian State University.

He shared 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Annette McClellan Eaton. Together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and unwavering support.

He was a proud and devoted father to his son, Alexander "Alex" McClellan Eaton, of Park City, Utah and Saluda, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, his wife, and his son, survivors include his brother, Eric Eaton (Celeste) of Columbus, North Carolina; his nephew, Grant Eaton (Alyssa) of Mooresboro, North Carolina; and extended family who will deeply miss his steady presence and kind heart.

Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Lynn Eaton.

Mark began his career in information technology at R.J. Reynolds but soon found his true calling in serving children through education. He worked as Data Manager and Golf Coach at William Ellis Middle School in Davie County, where he was widely known for his ability to notice a child in need and step in to help in meaningful ways. His morning "bad dad" jokes were a daily highlight for students and staff alike, and under his leadership the golf team proudly won their conference championship in 2025.

He extended his compassion and commitment to youth as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scouts Troop 732, generously giving his time to help boys grow into confident, responsible young men. Through this service, Mark not only shaped lives but also formed enduring bonds rooted in shared values and service.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 10, at Mocks Church, with Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in church cemetery. The family invites friends to visit with them Friday, January 9, at Lambert Funeral Home, Mocksville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021; Memo: Donna Lynn Eaton Scholarship.
