Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Marion Frisbie, 91, of Bermuda Run, joined his Heavenly Father on September 5, 2025, at his home in Bermuda Run.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Frisbie; and his brother, Edward "Eddie" Frisbie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Elder Frisbie; their three sons, Charles, William and wife Holly, and James and wife Heather; and their four granddaughters, Anna, Sarah, Stella, and Mary Kate Frisbie.

Born on September 15th, 1933, Charlie grew up in Mills River, where he learned the value of hard work and the beauty of the natural world. Charlie came from a family of sportsmen, learning gardening, hunting, and fishing from his father. He achieved Eagle Scout in his youth and remained involved as a Scoutmaster with his boys, leading camping trips every month rain or shine. His children and grandchildren carry on his love for the outdoors.

After earning a bachelor's degree in Fisheries Biology from the University of Maryland, Charlie began his career as a Fisheries Research Biologist on Solomons Island, MD. He later earned his master's degree in Fisheries Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After graduating, he pioneered the fisheries program for the state of Georgia. Charlie spent the remainder of his career as the Fisheries Coordinator for the state of Maryland. His contributions have made a lasting impact on fisheries research and his work is still cited today.

Charlie's adventurous spirit lives on through his sons and granddaughters. After college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, proudly serving in the Honor Guard for the 78th Engineer Battalion. Stationed in Germany, he enjoyed skiing the Alps, climbing the Matterhorn, and becoming an expert in Oktoberfest. Back in the States, he took his family on monthly trips exploring the East Coast in their camper. Charlie enjoyed traveling for the remainder of his life. He called many places "home," including St. Simon's Island, GA, Annapolis, MD, and Beech Mountain. Wherever he went, Charlie made lifelong friends.

Perhaps the greatest achievement of Charlie's life is his legacy of love. He met his wife, Mary while living on Solomons Island as a young biologist. They shared an instant connection and Charlie proposed on their third date, which Mary thought was a little too soon. While Mary was traveling with girlfriends out West, Charlie mailed her letters to romantic towns along the way like "Loveland" and "Valentine" –– they married a year later. Charlie, always a true gentleman, never let Mary open a door, carry her own luggage, or pump her own gas. Charlie and Mary recently celebrated their 61st anniversary, a testament to the strength of their marriage.

Charlie maintained a strong faith throughout his life. Charlie and Mary raised a Christian family and were always active in their Church. Charlie attended church each Sunday, and he kept his heart and mind with his Lord every day. He will be remembered and missed by many for his kind heart, gentle manner, and generosity.
