Obituary

Charles Nathaniel Dalton was born on March 14, 1930, in Iredell County, son of the late Nick and Lillie Carson Dalton. The family moved to Virginia, where he was educated in Danville City Schools. Years later they returned to the Davie community. Charles was a dependable, hard-working man, whose employment included Hanes Chair Factory, Drexel Heritage Furniture, Baker Furniture, and the Mocksville Feed Mill. Later he owned a waste disposal business, along with Dalton's Furniture Repair and Refinish Shop. In 1949, he married Helen E. Mack. They enjoyed sixty-five years of beautiful marriage. To this union seven children were born. Spending time with family was something Charles loved to do. He also enjoyed Nascar racing, traveling, music, flea markets, antique cars and furniture. He loved to tell jokes and share family history. He was a devoted collector of glass and ceramic hens. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and in recent years he regularly attended Refuge Community Church. He was Past Worshipful Master of Corinthian Lodge #17 Prince Hall Mason. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Helen on June 5, 2014. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Michael, Steven, and Gilbert Dalton; one grandson, Jhockton Dalton; six brothers, 'Nat', Hillary, Matthew, Newman, Lonnie, and Odell; one sister, Ruby Howell. On December 9, 2015, he passed away at his residence in Mocksville, following an extended illness. He is lovingly survived by three sons, David (Annetta) Dalton of Mocksville, James W. (Stephanie) Dalton of Miami, Florida, and Thomas (Gloria) Dalton of Mocksville; two daughters, Debra (Lemuel) Watkins of Durham, NC, and Frances Carter of Mocksville; one dear sister, Lillian Doulin of Mocksville; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; one daughter - in-law, Edna Dalton of Advance, NC; many other relatives and friends.
