Charles Lendburgh Barker, the youngest son of the late Tobe Garfield and the late Maude Jefferson Barker, was born on May 12, 1928 in Mocksville, NC and departed this life on June 24, 2014 at Autumn Care Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Charlie, as he was affectionately known, attended the Davie County Training School. At an early age he joined St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a member until death. Charlie enlisted in the army and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1961 after being awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Tobe Garfield and Maude Jefferson Barker; three brothers, Willie, Andrew and Jasper Barker; four sisters, Ina Mae Howell, Ada Williams, Rosie Carter and Alma Dulin. He leaves to cherish his memories five children, Alvin Dunn of Yadkinville, NC, Charles 'Chuckie' Barker of Winston-Salem, NC, Wanda Barker of Cleveland, Ohio, Yoric Barker and Scott Barker of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Tobe (Coot) Barker and Calvin Barker of Ohio; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and special friend, Alice Marie Davidson.
