Bernice A. Mayfield was born in Mocksville, NC on June 17, 1933, daughter of Dennis and Angie Alexander. She attended Davie County Schools and worked at Carolina Manufacturing for twenty years and then retired. At an early age she joined Shiloh Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife to her husband, James A. Mayfield. This union had four daughters and two sons. Bernice was a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She loved everyone and wanted everyone to be happy. She never complained through her pain. Her faith stayed strong as she journeyed on to be in God's loving arms. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mayfield in December, 1982. She was also preceded in death by six sisters, Louise Jones, Vivian Burch, Mary F. Moore, Mary L. Boyce, Mary Joyce Alexander and Gwendolyn Robinson; four brothers, Dennis, John, Whitfield, and Joe H. Alexander. On Friday, April 8, 2011, at age seventy-seven, she was wrapped in God's arms at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn M. Tatum, Jeannie (James) Rivers, Josephine Mayfield all of Mocksville, and Patricia (Harold) Williams of Woodleaf; two sons, James C. Mayfield of Mocksville, and Randy (Tunya) Mayfield of Winston-Salem; twelve grandchildren including a devoted granddaughter, Tonya Stout; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Alexander; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Burch, and Junior Boyce; a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
