Barbara Jean Gaither Carson, 78, of Mocksville, died Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Chippenham Hospital, Richmond, VA due to complications during surgery, for a fall suffered at her daughter's home. She was born December 30, 1941, in Davie County, to the late John R. and Augusta Hallman Gaither. Barbara Jean was a member of Rock Hill Church of Christ in Cleveland where she served on the Christ Bereavement Committee. She attended Davie County Training School. Barbara Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. On July 5, 1963, she was married to the late Billy H. Carson with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Barbara Jean was a lifelong avid reader and pet lover. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Brian Keith Carson; one son-in-law, Love Calvin Jones III; and two sisters, Mary Neely and Geraldine Fisher. Survivors include her daughter, Billie 'Jeanie' Carson-Jones of Chesterfield, VA; son, Barry R. Carson of Fort Washington, MD; granddaughter, Loveona Jenee Jones of Chesterfield, VA; two sisters, Shirley (Alaa) Farid and Rosetta Gaither, both of Mocksville; sister-in-law, Dorothy Leen Sherill of Mocksville; brother-in-law, Melvin Fisher of Salisbury; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be conducted, Friday, December 18, at 10 a.m., at Salisbury National Cemetery. Please be mindful of social distancing and face coverings are required.
